New Delhi: Senthil Kumar, a DMK MP in the Lok Sabha, demanded that the Teerthakriswarar temple in Arur taluk Theerthamalai should be included in the Pilgrimage Revival and Spiritual Development Scheme (PRASA).

Dharmapuri Member of Parliament Senthil Kumar said in the Lok Sabha: There is Theerthamalai in Arur Circle of Dharmapuri District. In this, the Tirthagriswarar temple built by the Chola Pandya and Vijayanagara kings in the last seventh century is situated. Inscriptions of its construction centuries ago are still visible in the temple. There are inscriptions indicating that Rajaraja Cholan visited this temple frequently.

At present, the number of people coming to this temple as devotees and public from outside districts and states is increasing day by day. The temple needs integrated tourism development with local arts and crafts. Therefore, the very ancient Tirthagriswarar Temple should be brought under the Pilgrimage Revival and Spiritual Development Program so that the fame of Tirthagriswarar Temple should be made known to the world. I request this from the Union Ministry of Tourism,” he said.
