Three-Year-Old Dies Following Car Crash and Trip to Queensland Police station
A tragic incident unfolded in Queensland, Australia, on Saturday morning, resulting in the death of a three-year-old boy after a vehicle crash south of Brisbane. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the event, which also led to a man being charged with breaching a domestic violence order.
Emergency services responded to a call at approximately 5:00 AM Saturday on Eastern Services Road in Staplyton, after a vehicle traveling south left the roadway and entered nearby bushland. Initial reports indicate a witness assisted a woman and the three-year-old child, transporting them to the Beenleigh Police Station.
Shortly after arriving at the station, the young boy became unresponsive. Officers instantly began performing CPR, but were unable to revive him. “The three-year-old child became unresponsive in the foyer of Beenleigh Police Station with officers performing CPR; though, the boy died,” police stated.
According to a senior official, the mother requested the witness transport her to the police station and contacted emergency services while en route. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash left the scene with a one-year-old boy before police arrived. Both were later located at a residential address around 6:30 AM.
The man has been charged with breaching a domestic violence order and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Early investigations suggest the man was operating the vehicle at the time of the crash.
“It is realy too early to determine the exact circumstances of what occurred prior to the crash,” stated Acting Superintendent Mark Mooney. “We will determine if there was any mechanical reason for the vehicle to be driven off the road or whether it was human actions. We have a lot of enquiries to make but we are appealing for the public to come forward with any facts they may have.”
Police have established multiple crime scenes and are actively investigating the incident. Mooney added that preliminary findings indicate the woman and her two children had collected the man prior to the crash, and that police believe the adults had previously been in a relationship that had ended.
A one-year-old boy, also involved in the incident, was transported to Logan Hospital in stable condition, according to a spokesperson for the Queensland Ambulance Service.
The incident prompted praise for first responders. Health Minister Tim Nicholls expressed his condolences to those affected and acknowledged the difficult circumstances faced by emergency personnel. “Advice I have received this morning from the Queensland ambulance Service … is that it was quite a horrific circumstance they were presented with at the Beenleigh Police Station,” Nicholls said. “I also want to thank our first responders, who are often the unsung and forgotten heroes in these tragic circumstances.”
Police are appealing to the public for any dash cam footage that may assist with the investigation.
