British Airways is cutting its winter schedule. A total of almost 10,000 flight movements are to be removed from the program between October and March. This should lead to fewer delays.

DThe airline British Airways plans to cancel around 10,000 short-haul flights to and from London Heathrow between October and March. By the end of October, a few dozen return flights per day – a total of 629 – are to be canceled, as the company announced on Monday on request. Some long-haul flights will also be canceled. This should result in fewer cancellations and delays in winter.

However, the airline wants to maintain its connections to popular holiday destinations during the autumn school holidays. Most cancellations should be announced well in advance, and travelers should usually be able to switch to other connections. The majority of connections and passengers will not be affected by the changes, it said.

Due to an acute shortage of staff, the largest British airport has introduced an upper limit of a maximum of 100,000 passengers per day. This was actually supposed to expire in mid-September, but was recently extended to the end of October. British Airways had already canceled almost 30,000 flights in the summer.
