British athletes have criticized the cost of children’s tickets to the Olympic competitions in Paris, as they have to pay for an infant as for an adult, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.
“It seems so illogical that I have to buy a ticket for a one-year-old,” The Sun quoted GB track cycling team member Daniel Bigham as saying. “He’s officially taking a place, even though he wouldn’t be able to sit in it at one year old, which is annoying. He won’t remember the event, but it will be nice to have him there.”
Matilda Hodgkins-Byrne, a member of the Great Britain rowing team, believes it is wrong that athletes are only given two tickets for each day of their competition. However, she does not understand why they have to pay for this. “I have never had to pay for rowing tickets for my son before, given his age. We know that because of the noise at the Games he will come to my heat and leave straight away, but we still have to pay for it. If we have to pay for little ones who are not going to even sit there and enjoy the competition, it means our parents can’t go, it is a bit of a shame, but I will be much less worried and upset if my son is there than if he is not,” the athlete said.
The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris will take place on July 26. The competitions in the French capital will end on August 11.
