The UK government is looking into the role of other countries in spreading disinformation online that could help fuel protests in the country, Euractiv reports, Day.Az reports, citing Lenta.ru.

It is noted that the British authorities have warned companies associated with social networks about this, and also emphasized the need to “take additional measures to prevent” the dissemination of such information.

On July 29, in the English city of Southport, a 17-year-old teenager attacked a dance studio with a knife, killing three children. The tragedy led to mass riots in the city. Fake news appeared on social networks that the criminal was a Muslim. This rumor was refuted – the attacker turned out to be Axel Rudakubana, born in Wales to parents from Christian Rwanda. However, the information provoked protests against the influx of migrants.
