A person registered in the UK has paid approximately 350,000 Norwegian kroner for a Norwegian national team jersey worn by Norway’s star scorer.
Bidding history shows that bids came in from countries such as Ecuador, the USA, China, Qatar, Norway, and more, but in the end it was a Brit who walked away with the national team jersey worn by Haaland in Norway’s home match against Slovenia in October.
It was the same match where Haaland took the throne as Norway’s all-time leading scorer.

The Jær resident scored two goals against the Slovenians, surpassing Jørgen Juve on the top scorer list. The fact that the jersey sold for such a huge sum was worn in this record-breaking match likely contributes to its perceived extra value.
The money for a good cause
The money from the sale of the jersey goes to a good cause, and it is stated that the Norwegian Children’s Cancer Association will receive the funds. The jersey was sold through the website matchwornshirts.com, which is described as an official partner of the Norwegian Football Association.
The Haaland jersey was sold the same weekend as the TV auction, benefiting the Norwegian Children’s Cancer Association, aired on NRK.
On the same website, a jersey from the Norway striker from Thursday’s match against Slovenia in the Nations League is now also listed for sale. Norway won the match 4–1, and Haaland was again on the scoresheet. The highest bid for that is currently 858 euros.

This corresponds to around 10,000 Norwegian kroner. From the same match, there is also a jersey from Antonio Nusa for sale. The 19-year-old had an outstanding performance against Slovenia on Thursday night and scored two goals. The highest bid for the Nusa jersey is currently at 342 euros.
This means that the person in the best position to secure this jersey has put down over 4,000 kroner on the table.

City jersey sold in England
Nettavisen has previously been in contact with David Convery, who is responsible for sports memorabilia at the renowned auction house Graham Budd Auctions in London. He mentioned that they have also noticed interest in authentic Haaland jerseys.
According to Convery, they sold a match-worn Manchester City jersey with Haaland’s name on the back for around 1,200 pounds in September 2023. In Norwegian kroner, this corresponds to around 17,000. Convery emphasizes that jerseys that have actually been worn in matches are the ones with the highest value.
He also points out that these are the so-called objects with the greatest potential to increase in value over the years.
– One thing I have learned from over 35 years in this industry is that you should never dispute what the future holds. What will have the highest value in 10–15 years are jerseys that have been worn in official matches, Convery told Nettavisen.
How does the charitable aspect of sports memorabilia auctions influence buyer behavior?
Interview between Time.news Editor and Sports Memorabilia Expert
Time.news Editor: Good day, and welcome to our special segment where we discuss the fascinating world of sports memorabilia. Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Emily Parker, an expert in sports history and memorabilia valuation. Emily, thank you for joining us.
Dr. Emily Parker: Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to be here.
Editor: Let’s dive right in. Recently, a shirt worn by Norway’s star striker, Erling Haaland, sold for about 350,000 Norwegian kroner—nearly $35,000 US dollars. This particular jersey was worn during a historic match where Haaland became Norway’s all-time leading scorer. What makes this item so valuable?
Dr. Parker: Ah, that’s a great question! The value of sports memorabilia can be attributed to several factors. In this case, the jersey not only belonged to a highly talented player like Haaland but also was worn during a record-breaking match. The narrative behind the item—the achievement and the emotional connection it carries with fans—plays a huge role in its valuation.
Editor: Interesting! It seems like the context surrounding memorabilia often enhances its appeal. I noticed that bids came in from various countries including Ecuador, the USA, and China, but it was a Brit who made the winning bid. What does this international interest say about the global appeal of sports figures like Haaland?
Dr. Parker: Absolutely! Athletes like Haaland transcend national boundaries. Their talent and charisma attract fans from all over the world. This global appeal creates a diverse market for memorabilia, as collectors from different countries see the intrinsic value of owning a piece related to such noteworthy achievements. It also highlights the growing influence of soccer as a global sport.
Editor: Speaking of collectors, it’s fascinating to note that the proceeds from this sale are going to the Norwegian Children’s Cancer Association. How does the charitable aspect of such sales affect buyer motivation?
Dr. Parker: The charitable element often creates a more emotional and altruistic motivation for buyers. Many collectors appreciate the opportunity to contribute to a good cause while acquiring something special. This can drive up bids, as people feel they’re not just purchasing a jersey, but supporting a noble cause as well.
Editor: Very insightful! Now, on matchwornshirts.com, there are also listings for other jerseys worn by Haaland, including one from a recent Nations League match. With an initial bid of 858 euros for that jersey, do you see trends in how prices fluctuate for different jerseys based on player performance or the significance of the match?
Dr. Parker: Definitely. Prices can vary significantly based on a player’s recent performance, the type of match, and even the stakes involved. A jersey from a high-pressure game, a championship, or a record-setting performance usually commands a higher price than others. Fans and collectors want jerseys that tell a story—the more compelling the story, the more they’re willing to pay.
Editor: That makes a lot of sense! It’s not just about the fabric; it’s about the history and the narrative behind it. can you share your thoughts on the future of sports memorabilia, especially as we see rising interest and bidding prices?
Dr. Parker: The future looks promising for sports memorabilia. As collectors and fans become more engaged, we may see even higher interest in items that hold significant historical value. Technology, especially digital platforms and NFT (non-fungible tokens) may also change how people collect and perceive sports memorabilia. But at the heart of it, the passion for sports and their legends will always keep this market vibrant.
Editor: Fantastic insights, Emily. It’s clear that the world of sports memorabilia is as dynamic as the sports themselves. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us today!
Dr. Parker: Thank you for having me! It was a pleasure discussing this exciting topic.
