Lammy spoke at a joint press conference following a meeting with his Polish counterpart, Radoslaw Sikorski, about Poland and the UK’s “shared strategic vision, which primarily concerns Ukraine and NATO”. In this context, Lammy pointed out: the stationing of British soldiers and the Sky Saber anti-aircraft missile system in Poland. “We are currently facing joint threats from Russia and Belarus,” he added.

The British minister indicated that he would like to cooperate with his Polish partner in bilateral relations as well as in the framework of the European Union (EU). He mentioned the strengthening of commitments aimed at supporting Ukraine, as well as joint defense and security projects, which would be included in the new security agreement between the EU and the United Kingdom, to be concluded in the coming months.

When asked about British-EU relations, Lammy indicated that the new British government would “restart relations with Europe”. In addition to the security agreement, it was about cooperation in the fields of climate, energy and migration policy.

In response to a journalist’s question about the NATO summit in Washington, which begins on Tuesday, Lammy said: London will underline its “unwavering commitment” to support Ukraine.

Radoslaw Sikorski said about the NATO summit: Polish and British expectations are “very similar”, the policy aimed at long-term support of Ukraine and the strengthening of mutual security guarantees are important to them. He announced that following the British example, Poland will also sign a bilateral agreement on security cooperation with Ukraine in the coming days.

Sikorski underlined: Poland and the United Kingdom have the same position on several issues affecting global security, including the need for constant support for Ukraine. The two countries will support Ukraine together, to an even greater extent, he indicated.

The head of Polish diplomacy expressed his hope that the bilateral cooperation will be pragmatic and that “pragmatism will also characterize the relations between the United Kingdom and Europe”.
