Expressing support for far-right parties on social media… anti-Islamic views
A car crashed into a Christmas market in Magdeburg, the capital of Germany’s Saxony-Anhalt state, killing more than 200 people, and German Interior Minister Nancy Feser announced on the 21st (local time) that the suspect was an Islamophobe.
According to CNN, Interior Minister Feser said this in Magdeburg today, saying the investigation is in its early stages.
On social media, the suspect expressed support for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and appeared to sympathize with anti-Islam views.
State authorities believe the suspect committed the crime alone using a rental car.
German authorities said the suspect was a 50-year-old Saudi man who had lived legally in Germany since 2006.
At least 5 people were killed and over 200 injured in this attack. 41 of the injured are in critical condition.
Magdeburg officials said a 9-year-old child was among the dead.
In Germany, in 2016, a terrorist attack targeting a Christmas market in downtown Berlin left 13 people dead and over 60 injured.
