British hotel room prices ‘jump’ three-fold on news of Oasis reunion

Hotel room prices have skyrocketed after popular British rock band Oasis announced a reunion and tour dates.

According to the BBC on the 29th (local time), Sasha Lord, Manchester’s night-time economy adviser, said that there were many complaints about hotel reservations after the announcement of Oasis’ tour schedule.

“We have received complaints from several disgruntled customers,” said Lord Counsellor. “Some of them have had their reservations canceled by the hotel and then started selling them at three times the price.”

Oasis previously announced that they would perform at Heaton Park in Manchester on July 11th, 12th, 19th, and 20th next year. As a result, the price of a hotel room, which used to be around 350 pounds (about 610,000 won) per night for a weekend, has soared to 1.31 million won (about 1,310,000 won) for the weekend of the concert.

Lily Stroud, who revealed she had booked a room at Manchester’s Maldron Hotel before the tour was announced, explained that the booking was cancelled after the tour was announced.

The hotel explained, “Due to a technical error, more rooms were booked than were available on the performance date,” and “We were not trying to resell the rooms at a higher price.”

Despite consumer complaints, experts say Oasis’s performance will provide a boost to the local economy. “When a band like Oasis plays in a certain city, people will follow,” said Matt Grimes, a music industry researcher at Birmingham City College. “Hotels, public transportation companies, restaurants, and bars will make money.”

As global attention focused on this tour, Oasis added three more shows on the 29th. They are scheduled to perform a total of 17 shows, mainly in the UK and Ireland, from July 4 to August 17 next year.
