(ANSA) – ROME, SEPTEMBER 19 – British Invasion on Netflix in the first half of 2024: four of the 10 biggest shows this year on the streaming platform came from the United Kingdom (One Too Many 108 million, Baby Reindeer 88 million, The Gentlemen 76 million and One Day 39 million). This is one of the data from the latest Engagement Report released by the Los Gatos giant based on 99% of all views from January to June. In the first half of 2024, Netflix subscribers spent over 94 billion hours on the platform (a slight increase from 93 billion in the same period in 2023). The British thriller One Too Many was the most viewed show of the semester, followed by the third season of Bridgerton, Baby Reindeer and The Gentlemen. Bridgerton remains a huge and beloved franchise: 189 million viewers followed the saga created by Shonda Rhimes between January and June, with the third season alone having collected 92 million views in less than two months after its premiere on May 14. “Watching time – or engagement – is our best indicator of subscriber happiness. When people watch more, they stay longer and recommend Netflix to others,” explains the platform. While English series have dominated, great stories can come from anywhere and be loved everywhere. Non-English language stories accounted for nearly a third of all views. Spanish titles led the way with The Snow Company, Berlin, Asunta and Ni Una Màs, and those from South Korea (The Queen of Tears, Kiseiju – The Gray Zone and My Demon). France also did well with Under Paris, Italy (The Tear Maker), Japan (City Hunter) and India (Heeramandi). The report also highlights that Netflix audiences love different genres: from action films like Damsel (144 million) and series like Crooks to “prestige” series and films like Ripley (9 million) and The Crown (12 million for its final season). Whether in rom-com form like Mother of the Bride or tear-jerking dramas like HeartStopper, romance of all kinds continues to fascinate viewers. Comedies, documentaries, reality shows and animated films also performed well: The Super Mario Bros. Movie had 80 million “family” views ahead of Minions (73) and Baby Boss (64). (ANSA).
