Britain’s Labor Party dealt a crushing blow to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives by winning by-elections for two new MPs today in a vote that signals the opposition party is on course to win the general election later this year, BTA reported. to Reuters.

The double defeat highlighted the deteriorating state of Rishi Sunak’s ruling Conservative Party and will do little to assuage internal party criticism of him over fears the Conservatives could be defeated in the general election and want him to change course.

Sunak, a 43-year-old former investment banker, continues to struggle to rebuild his party’s standing, though at various times over the past year he has emerged as a bold reformer, then a staunch technocrat and now a man in need of more time “to stick to the plan” because, in his words, that plan is working.

With Britain’s Labor Party leading in the polls, Sunak may bow to demands from some conservatives to offer increasingly disaffected British voters a more right-leaning conservative agenda ahead of the election.

Labor won by 13,844 votes to 7,408 for the ruling Conservative Party in the central English town of Wellingborough, and in the south-west English town of Kingswood, Labor received 11,176 votes to 8,675 for the Conservative candidate.
