Member of the British House of Commons from the Conservative Party, Sir David Amesse, has died after receiving several stab wounds in the city of Lee-on-Sea in the south of England. According to the BBC, the attack on the parliamentarian took place during his meeting with voters in a public reception, located in the building of the city’s Methodist church.

According to police, a 25-year-old man entered the building, drew a knife and stabbed 69-year-old Sir David several times. The police who arrived at the scene of the crime detained the assailant and seized a knife with traces of blood. The police have not yet said anything about his personality and motives. The parliamentarian received emergency medical assistance, but he died of his wounds.

Sir David Amesse has been a member of the British Parliament from the Conservative Party since 1983, and was respected by his associates and voters. He is survived by a wife and five children. Former British Prime Minister David Cameron called the incident a terrible and tragic event. According to him, Sir David was “a kind and truly decent man and the most dedicated member of parliament you can be.”

This tragedy was the third attack on British parliamentarians in recent years. For example, in 2016, Labor Party MP Joe Cox was killed at the hands of far-right extremist Thomas Mayr also during a meeting with voters. In 2010, another Labor Party member, Stephen Timms, was stabbed.
