This year, over fifty Czech and foreign bands, musicians and DJs will perform at the Pop Messe festival, which will take place from July 25 to 27 at the velodrome near the Brno exhibition center. In the history of the event, which is held for the fourth time, this is the most so far. The main stars will include the British Sleaford Mods, the Icelandic GusGus, the duo Kiasmos or Olof Dreijer, half of the Swedish duo The Knife.

All previous editions of the Pop Messe, which focuses on contemporary pop, electronica, rap and indie, have been hosted by the area behind Lužánké around the Bobycentrum. Last year, however, the old football stadium remained closed to visitors, mainly due to doubts about the statics of the stands. This year, the event is moving to the velodrome, where there should be more space. The organizers expect five stages, from large outdoor ones to indoor club ones.

The festival will also be a day longer. “We are strengthening the program, which is based on the most interesting contemporary names from many genres – from dance electronics to electro-soul, dub, rap and jazz,” says program director Tomáš Kelar.

Among others, the British group Leftfield, which has been active on the dance scene since the 90s of the last century, will come. “They also appeared on the Trainspotting soundtrack and remixed David Bowie,” recalls Kelar. Other well-known guests will be the Belgian Warhaus. “They have gradually become a cult group for all those who seek support for their dark states in alternative rock,” comments Kelar.

Masked London rapper Casisdead will arrive in Brno as a recent winner of the Brit Award. The bands Bert & Friends, Dukla or the renewed The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa, musicians Lenka Dusilová and Anna Vaverková, author of electronic music Mat213 and rapper Rohony will perform from the Czech performers. An interesting feature will be the virtual star Nivva, an anonymous project of a Prague musician and graphic artist working in the field of 3D technologies.

The Billy Barman band, which received seven Radio_Head Awards, Prešov rapper Dušan Vlk and producer Pišta Kralovič performing under the nickname FVLCRVM will arrive from Slovakia.
