A team of archaeologists has discovered several ancient items in the ruins of a Bronze Age city, located south of the city of Yulin, in Shaanxi, China. The findings can help researchers study the history of these artifacts, and even the region. The announcement was made during a press conference held by the National Administration of Cultural Heritage of China and published in the newspaper China Daily.

Artifacts include bronze drinking vessels, painted pottery, turquoise-encrusted ornaments, and jade carvings. These relics date back over 3,000 years and belong to the Shang Dynasty, which ruled northern China between 1600 BC and 1046 BC.

About the city where the artifacts were found

The team found nine high-ranking aristocratic tombs, and seven of them were rectangular with passageways. According to Sun Zhanwei of the Shaanxi Academy of Archeology, this means that these tombs belonged to leaders of different groups.

Archaeologists report that locals have unearthed ancient artifacts on their land since the 1940s, but their origins were unknown. However, with the discovery of the complete city, which stretches over 11 hills and covers more than 3 square kilometers, its history becomes clear.

“All the essential elements of a central settlement were found at the site,” said researcher Xu Lianggao, from the Institute of Archeology of China, in an interview with the newspaper. China Daily. “We’ve discovered some large-scale tombs and structures in this area in the past, but this time we managed to reveal the full face of a settlement.”
