Frank James, the man responsible for a shooting incident that injured 10 people on a crowded subway car in Brooklyn, has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison. The sentencing took place on Thursday in Brooklyn federal court, with James receiving 10 life sentences – one for each victim of the April 2022 attack that occurred during rush hour.

During the court proceedings, James took full responsibility for the attack and expressed remorse for the victims. “I alone am responsible for that attack,” he said. “They in no way deserved to have what happened to them.”

James had been facing 10 counts of committing a terror attack on a mass transit system. The shooting occurred on the morning of April 12, 2022, aboard a Manhattan-bound N train in Brooklyn. In January, James pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him.

Prosecutors had strongly advocated for a life sentence for James. The sentencing hearing began at noon and featured victim impact statements from the injured passengers, providing an opportunity for them to share the impact the incident had on their lives.

Following the conclusion of the hearing, representatives from the U.S. Attorney’s office and the FBI will address the media outside the courtroom.
