A 27-year-old teacher has been arrested for allegedly attacking a 15-year-old student at International High School at Lafayette.

The student was rushed to Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital with neck injuries, police said.

On Tuesday around 12:30 p.m., the teacher allegedly assaulted the student after he entered the classroom without permission.
The teacher, identified as Gary Zeng, was charged with second-degree strangulation, criminal obstruction of breathing, endangering the welfare of a child, and third-degree assault. He was taken into custody.

The student’s condition has stabilized. Evidence suggests the incident may not have been provoked.

The New York City Department of Education declined to comment.
