New York City authorities today (Wednesday) arrested the person suspected of carrying out the shooting at the Brooklyn train station that occurred last night. 16 people were injured as a result of the shooting, five of them in critical condition.

New York police tweeted that Frank James, is the suspect in the shooting, as revealed by their investigation. A video shot about a month before the incident by James was circulated on social media, in which he made it clear that “black” and “white” people should not live side by side. “You refuse to understand it, the white people hate the blacks, why do they hate you? Because they are angry that the ‘blacks’ are no longer ‘slaves’.”

CNN reported last night, hours after the shooting, that New York police are looking for a U-Haul vehicle with a license plate from the state of Arizona, on suspicion that it is connected to the shooting on the Brooklyn subway. The report relied on internal email correspondence, which was sent to New York police officers and detectives, and includes, among other things, a possible photo of the vehicle.

However, the emails do not specify how the vehicle was related to the shooting incident, however according to police sources, the incident investigators located a ticket for renting a van belonging to the same company at the scene. Investigators also have a video of an eyewitness in which the suspect is seen.

The suspect threw a smoke bomb into the train car before the shooting, with his face covered in a gas mask. He also appears to have planned the event in advance and it is estimated that he acted alone without outside help and assistance. Meanwhile, New York City police reported that the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m.

Immediately after the incident, the New York Police Department said in a press briefing: “No active terrorist incident was investigated, this is a man who pulled out a smoke grenade – then opened fire and hit people in the trailer and platform. No explosive devices are known on the New York subways.”
