The Minister of the Economy estimated Monday that the rapper Booba, who has become a figure in the fight against the dishonest methods of certain influencers, was “right to recall these abuses”.

Bruno Le Maire supports Booba in his fight against the “drifts” of influencers. Monday March 13, the Minister of the Economy was the guest of 8:30 am of France Info. Interviewed by Marc Fauvelle and Salhia Brakhlia, he answered questions about pension reform, public spending, French banks and thermal cars. During his speech, the Minister also referred to “the drift of influencers”, specifying that a law was in preparation so that those who advertise on social networks are subject to the same rules as the media.

Several controversies targeting influencers or agents have already emerged. In 2021, reality TV star Nabilla Benattia-Vergara was fined 20,000 euros for promoting stock market investments on Snapchat in 2018. Bruno Le Maire reacted on Twitter, saying influencers should “inform their community when they are paid to promote products”. Last year, rapper Booba accused Magali Berdah, a personality agent, of promoting scams on social networks, denouncing at the same time the “drifts” of influencers in general. And he is “right”, says Bruno Le Maire.

Now the goal is simple: “Give status” to these influencers – which some call «influencers” – and “strengthen controls”, explains Bruno Le Maire. In January, Bercy launched a consultation to “better support and supervise them”. For example, “when you have an alcohol product placement, or other product placements, the legal notices must appear on the sites of the influencers, which is not the case today“, continues the minister. Bruno Le Maire made a point of reminding that it is not a question “a fight against influencers” but of one “device to protect them”.
