A family tragedy unfolded in Altavilla Milicia, on the outskirts of Palermo, where a 54-year-old man killed two of his children and his wife, then called the police. The eldest daughter, aged 17, managed to save herself from her father’s fury and escape.
Giovanni Barreca, whom the girl described to authorities as a religious fanatic, woke up at 3 a.m. screaming that he saw the devil in his home. He killed his 41-year-old wife, Antonella Salamone, by chaining her to death, then burned her and buried her remains in the ground. However, they have not yet been found by the authorities, Italian media reported. According to them, the surviving daughter woke up to find the corpses of her mother and her brothers, Kevin and Emmanuel, aged 16 and 5.
Giovanni, who worked as a bricklayer, first tortured the youngest of his children, then strangled him with a chain. He did the same with the other boy. Only parts of the children’s corpses were found in different areas of the house. The chain with which he was killed was also found next to Kevin’s body. Investigators are still interviewing potential witnesses to the bloody scene. According to some information, two acquaintances of the killer were also involved in the brutal crime.
RAI TV reported that satanic rituals are most likely behind the murders. Remains of animal carcasses were found buried in the ground in the yard of the house.
