Domestic indigenous government telecom company BSNL has started trial of 5G network. Domestic telecom and hardware companies like Lekha Wireless, VVDN Technologies, Galore Networks and WiSig have started live testing of 5G technology using 700 MHz spectrum. BSNL hopes to reduce costs when it commercially launches its 5G network.
5G trial started at these locations
BSNL’s 5G trial network has been set up at Minto Road and Chanakyapuri in Delhi. According to information from Voice of Indian Communication Technology Enterprises (VoICE), Galore is deploying MTNL’s three sites in Delhi’s Rajendra Nagar, Karol Bagh and Shadipur. BSNL has partnered with its IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) partner Coral Telecom to connect the 5G network to the old 3G network.
Trial of 5G service with the help of Tata
BSNL’s 5G network is being rolled out with the help of indigenous telecom companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tejas Network, Vihaan Network, United Telecom, Coral Telecom, HFCL, Tidal Wave and others. TCS has also started a similar trial run in Delhi. BSNL 5G trials are being conducted at many locations including IIT Delhi. Also, similar 5G trial runs are to be conducted at many locations across the country till Diwali.
Jio Airtel’s lead in 5G
Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have already completed 5G network rollout across India. They are also delivering commercial 5G with the help of fixed wireless lines and broadband. Private telecom company Vodafone Idea is preparing for 5G network rollout. While BSNL is currently moving towards 4G launch.
Government’s big relief package to BSNL and MTNL
In June 2023, the Cabinet gave Rs 89.047 crore to BSNL. Also, the government had given a relief package of Rs 69,000 crore for BSNL and MTNL in 2019. After this, Rs 1.64 lakh crore has been released for two telecom PSUs in 2022.
