BTS MCO – Operational commercial management (formerly MUC)

Since the start of the 2019 school year, the MCO (Operational Commercial Management) higher technician certificate has replaced the BTS MUC (Management of Commercial Units), the most popular BTS each year. This BTS MUC had itself succeeded the BTS “Commercial Action” in 2004. It is the fastest gateway to the sales professions after the Bac.

The transformation of the BTS MUC into a BTS MCO must make it possible to take into account in the content of the lessons the evolutions of commercial functions, such as the multiplication of sales channels (in store, online, etc.) and the digitalization of all professional environment, which involves mastering digital tools.

Objectives of the BTS MCO

Like its “ancestor” the BTS MUC, the BTS MCO aims to train salespeople in the management and development of a small business unit: point of sale, shop, supermarket, hypermarket department, sales agency, merchant site or even profit center. The fields of practice are very diversified: banking, insurance, distribution, real estate, transport. 60% of the program is therefore devoted to management. The holder of the BTS MCO may also be required to create his own business, or to take over an already existing business.

Lessons and exams of the BTS MCO

On the program: French, LV1, general economics, business economics, management and management of commercial units, management of commercial relations (marketing of the offer), law, development of a commercial unit, commercial IT, communication, tools management and computer science applied to statistics. As an option, it is possible to take an LV2, or a professionalization course abroad, or training in entrepreneurship.

14 to 16 weeks of internship are planned over the two years, they can take place in one or more companies. Each internship must last a minimum of 4 consecutive weeks. There are also plans for professional preparation and follow-up missions, up to a maximum of 10 half-days per year of BTS. These missions come in addition to internships, and take place, within the framework of tutorials, within the companies hosting the interns.

The exams take place in 2 phases, in addition to continuous assessment: written tests in May, then oral tests. The deliberation jury meets a few days after the orals. You get the BTS MCO if you have an average equal to or greater than 10/20. There is no repechage event in BTS.

The BTS MCO is also accessible in learning.

BTS MCO: for whom?

Character :

To become commercial or responsable commercial : you have to like action and be dynamic (outside meetings, challenges of turnover objectives), know how to communicate (convince, motivate a team, argue, lead), have a sense of negotiation, be a good manager (like numbers: budget, profitability, profits, turnover targets).

Initial training:

Like the BTS MUC before it, the BTS MCO should particularly attract holders of the BAC STG option accounting and finance of companies or marketing, in front of the bac ES, as well as candidates disappointed by their first year of university, wishing to receive an education more practical. This BTS is also an orientation track for trade pros. The selection is made on examination of the file, via Parcoursup.

BTS MCO: job opportunities

Professions:

Possible jobs at the start of your career: Commercial Counsellor, Account Managerin charge of commercial administration, commercial delegate, merchandiser, Department manager, sales animator, telemarketertelephone adviser, courtierinsurance contract manager, VRP (Traveller, Representative, Usher). Possible jobs thereafter: purchasing manager, department manager, sales manager, sales manager.

• Management and animation of the offer of products and/or services.
• Marketing, communication on the product and/or service offer.

Continuation of studies after a BTS MCO

Most of the students holding the BTS MUC entered directly into working life, it will probably be the same for the BTS MCO. However, the continuation of studies is possible for the best students, either at university, by choosing a professional license, or in business or management schools, thanks to parallel admissions.
