The 2025 budget, the examination of which begins this week in the National Assembly, should allow France to “continue to reindustrialise” and create jobs, President Emmanuel Macron recommended on Monday, when asked about it during a visit to the Salon of ‘Car of Paris (15th arrondissement of Paris). Paris).
“There is work to be done between government and Parliament,” said the head of state, responding to a question on the balance to be found between taxation and deficit reduction.
“The country’s priority”
“France must continue to reindustrialise, continue to innovate, continue to create jobs and encourage job creation, this is the country’s priority,” he continued.
“The core of the work we need to do is to continue to create jobs, create wealth in the country and then have good debates about how to redistribute it,” Emmanuel Macron further clarified. And he adds: “We are one of the OECD countries that already taxes the most, despite the reductions made in the last 7 years. When we look at things in relation to the United States, Europe’s problem is its growth and its ability to innovate. This is what we need to strengthen.”
The automotive industry, and in particular the electric vehicle sector, is a good example of this policy aimed at reindustrialising France, the president insisted: “We are consolidating an electrical sector that produces and will produce even more at home”, he added, while when he arrived at the Elysée in 2017, “there were no electric vehicles produced in our country”.
The government presented a draft budget for 2025 on Thursday that includes a drastic reduction in spending and a return to tax increases, in order to consolidate public finances. It foresees an effort of 60.6 billion euros for public finances.
However, this project risks being profoundly reworked in the National Assembly, where the “budget battle” will begin in the Finance Committee on Wednesday: the government will specify some savings through amendments and the opposition will also present some.
