Budget allocation for Madurai Metro Rail Project?

CHENNAI: It is expected that funds will be allocated for the Madurai Metro Rail project in this budget. Finance Minister PDR Palanivel Thiagarajan has consulted on this.

The first phase of the Chennai Metro Rail project is fully operational on two lines, 54.1 km from Wimco Nagar to Chennai Airport and Central to Parangimalai. In this case, the 2nd phase metro works are progressing very fast. Works are being carried out for a length of 118.9 km at a cost of Rs.69,180 crore. All these works are targeted to be completed by 2026.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to implement metro rail projects in Coimbatore and Madurai. In this, a detailed project report has been submitted to the Tamil Nadu government for the implementation of the 31 km metro rail project from Othakadai to Tirumangalam in Madurai. It is estimated that the cost of implementing this project will be Rs.8 thousand crores.

In this case, the Finance Minister has held a consultation regarding the Madurai Metro Rail Project. In particular, consultations have been held regarding the progress of two projects namely the Madurai Metro Rail Project and the Madurai Tidal Park Project.
