(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 28 – Ten billion euros in the Budget, to be invested in health professionals. Otherwise, the very survival of the National Health Service is at risk. This is the proposal of the president of the National Federation of the Orders of Surgeons and Dentists (Fnomceo), Filippo Anelli, to save the National Health Service. Two days before the majority summit on the next Budget Law, the president relaunches Minister Schillaci’s commitment to provide resources dedicated to the valorization of personnel.
Citizens are also asking to put healthcare among the priorities in the budget. “According to the latest Censis-Fnomceo Report – says Anelli – for 87% it is a priority to improve the working conditions and salaries of doctors, precisely because they consider them the most important resource of healthcare. For 92.5% it is necessary to immediately hire doctors and nurses in the Health Service, to quickly cut waiting lists. These numbers are in line with a recent survey conducted by the Piepoli Institute: for 90% of citizens, healthcare must be a priority of the Government in the Budget”.
Unfortunately, the reality is very different: doctors’ salaries from 2012 to 2022, in real terms, have actually decreased by 6.1%. And they are increasingly distant, in absolute terms, from those of their European colleagues. This, together with working conditions, aggravated by episodes of violence and unsustainable workloads, is leading more and more doctors to abandon the Health Service. “We must stop this hemorrhage or the result will be the death by consumption of public health, emptied of its lifeblood, its professionals. And citizens will be left without care”. Already today, those who can turn to insurance, to private care or give up on treatment. “According to Istat data, there are 4 and a half million citizens who give up on treatment: the equivalent of the inhabitants of Emilia-Romagna. If we don’t act now – says Anelli – they will soon become as many as the ten million who populate Lombardy”. (ANSA).
