For almost two years now, the government has promised at regular intervals the end of “whatever the cost”. Will this time be the right one? The executive is preparing to give a boost in the coming days to its quest for budgetary savings, a perilous exercise in view of the explosive social context.

Within ten days, Bercy will unveil the main lines of the new trajectory of public finances by 2027, with the publication of the stability program which must be sent to Brussels. Despite the many additional expenditures granted recently – military programming law of 413 billion, increase of 500 million in the budget for student grants, etc. – the objective of reducing the deficit to less than 3% of GDP by this date will be reaffirmed.
