The city of Buenos Aires will host the final of the Copa Libertadores de América in the current edition, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) announced today.
“It’s official: Buenos Aires will host the final of the Copa Libertadores 2024. What a joy to receive you in our country!”, the organization chaired by Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia published on the social network X.
The main candidate to host the event is the Mas Monumental stadium, in River, with a capacity for approximately 80 thousand spectators after the latest works carried out in recent years.
The absence of Boca in this year’s Copa Libertadores would allow the organizers to avoid a potential participation of the classic rival of the “millionaire” in the defining instance.
This will be the first time that Argentina becomes the final stage of the Libertadores – it already did so in the Copa Sudamericana, with Córdoba as the venue – since the current single-match format was determined in 2019.
Precisely from that edition, the total predominance of Brazilian clubs began, with five consecutive Olympic rounds (two from Palmeiras and Flamengo; and one from Fluminense).
The Argentine teams participating in this edition of the Libertadores will be River Plate, San Lorenzo de Almagro, Estudiantes de La Plata, Rosario Central, Talleres de Córdoba and Godoy Cruz -in Phase 2-.
