A fire in a four-story building in northern China left at least 26 people dead and dozens hospitalized this Wednesday, 16th. The building that was hit belongs to the Yongju coal company in the city of Luliang, reported the CCTV channel, adding that the flames were controlled after a few hours. “Rescue work continues and the cause of the fire is being investigated,” the broadcaster said. A video posted on the social network Weibo shows flames and smoke in the building, with dozens of people screaming in the parking lot. According to information, the fire happened at 6:50 am (7:50 pm, November 15, in Brasília). The cause of the fire was still under investigation. There was no official statement from the Fire Department or Police Station. Calls to the company were not answered. Industrial accidents are frequent in China due to lax safety standards and the absence of measures to ensure compliance with the rules. In July, 11 people died when the roof of a school gymnasium collapsed in the northeast of the country. A month earlier, an explosion at a restaurant in northwest China killed 31 people. In April, 29 people died in a fire that affected a Beijing hospital. One of the most serious accidents happened in 2015 in the city of Tianjin, near the capital, where an explosion at a chemical warehouse killed 165 people.
