The President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, highlighted the rescue of the Historic Center of San Salvador, works that began in 2015, when he served as mayor of the capital.
Despite the fact that it seemed like an impossible task and the blockages of the political parties, the national government itself and supposed experts who even ordered the works to stop, the commitment to rescue it remained standing. Bukele recalled that they disobeyed the order to continue while they were negotiating government authorization in the Presidential House in exchange for not publicly breaking with his then party.
“We managed to rescue the small but emblematic heart of the Historic Center, and as my brother predicted, it was our greatest achievement in the Mayor’s Office of San Salvador,” he highlighted.
He added that, later: “God and the people led us to the Presidency of the Republic and other more important achievements eclipsed that achievement that at that time seemed impossible; but we never gave up on continuing and expanding it, now from the Presidency.”
The president announced that the Presidency has decided that, step by step, they will reach all the historic centers of the country to revitalize them, a project that is already bearing its first fruits.
