President Nayib Bukele announced on Sunday that he will present the “fully funded” General Budget of the Nation to the Legislative Assembly at the end of September.

The president said this during his speech on September 15, commemorating 203 years of national independence, in front of a battalion of hundreds of police officers and members of the armed forces at the facilities of the National Center for Agricultural and Forestry Technology (CENTA).

“As another example of the step-by-step progress our country is making, today I announce that on September 30 we will present to the Legislative Assembly, for the first time in decades, the first fully financed budget, without the need to issue a single cent of debt for current expenses,” the president said.

He explained that, through this initiative, El Salvador will no longer spend more than it produces annually and will not resort to borrowing money to pay the interest on inherited debts. The President of the Republic added that each year a more robust economy will be perceived, in a truly independent country, not only because of the fact of having an environment of peace, freedom and security; but because it will be financially and fiscally independent, which will be inherited by the new generations.

“We already know what we can achieve, this is not the time to back down. God commands us to be brave; today, more than ever, we need the fundamental pillars of our country: God, Union and Freedom; and the commitment and dedication of our heroes to inspire us, especially in the most difficult times. God guides our plan, God guides our country, may God bless El Salvador,” he stressed.

Prior to this event, Bukele, together with the First Lady, Gabriela de Bukele, and his daughters Layla and Aminah, led the commemoration of the Independence of El Salvador at the Presidential House, accompanied by his Government Cabinet, diplomatic corps and heads of the three State Bodies.
