Our and foreign services have warned Bulgaria about Iran’s missile strikes against Israel. That is why our country hastened the evacuation and managed to evacuate the Bulgarian citizens from the Lebanese capital Beirut in time before the rockets flew and the airspace over the entire Middle East was closed.
This became clear from the words of Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev after the meeting of the Security Council of the Council of Ministers.
“We reacted extremely adequately, in everyone’s estimation. This was as a result of prior preparation and information we had, both from the Bulgarian services and from partner and allied services. It is not the result of luck that 30 minutes after the second flight took off, real actions began,” said Glavchev.
“There is currently no current threat to our country. We discussed potential ones and how to counter them,” said acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev.
The caretaker prime minister proposed that Bulgaria call for de-escalation of the conflict. This is in sync with the European position on the matter.
“We have a low level of threat, so at the moment we have not received any information about endangering the security environment. Nevertheless, we have taken all preventive measures. We have strengthened our presence in relation to the Israeli embassy and Israeli citizens in Bulgaria, so as to guarantee security to everyone,” said acting interior minister Atanas Ilkov.
When asked what will be discussed by President Rumen Radev at the National Security Advisory Council (NSAC), after a meeting with the Prime Minister today, Glavchev replied: “The situation is dynamic. The NSAC is the highest format for meeting on these topics. There is something and there to be discussed, there is no dispute”.
Two weeks ago, Bulgaria was also involved in the scandal with the pagers that exploded and killed high-ranking leaders of Hezbollah.
“For the pagers and radio stations, I think that the issue has been categorically clarified from day one, that we have no involvement in the matter,” commented Glavchev today.
Earlier, Bulgaria was involved in another scandal – the Bosnian counterintelligence announced that they had detected cyber attacks from an IP address in our country. “We contribute to peace and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are part of the EU mission, as well as in Kosovo. These are insinuations and fake news,” commented Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov.
