Bulgaria’s women’s and men’s national volleyball teams will certainly be part of the League of Nations next year as well.

This becomes possible after the changes announced by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). They are expressed in the expansion of the form and the unification of the status of the participants.

Since the creation of the tournament in 2018, the participating teams were a total of 16, and they were divided into two categories – main and contenders, among the latter was Bulgaria.

At the end of each edition, the weakest of the contenders was eliminated from the competition, and in his place entered one of the champions of the continental leagues.

From 2025, however, the number of participants will be increased to 18 and all teams will now have the same status. Thus, no one will be protected from relegation.

The number of teams will be supplemented with the winner of the “Challenge” tournament and the highest ranked team in the world ranking, which is not part of the competition.

The changes will not result in more matches. They will remain 12.

However, the teams will be divided into 3 groups of 6 in each competition week, rather than 2 of 8.
