With a contested match, wonderful support from the stands, but also a defeat, the Bulgarian participation in the historic world championship for volleyball players under 17 years of age, which our country is hosting, began.

From today until August 31, our capital hosts the best 16 teams on the planet in the first champion under the auspices of the FIVB at this age. Bulgaria’s debut match was against Spain, and ours lost 1:3 (20:25, 25:21, 19:25, 20:25).

Teodor Bogdanov, for whom this was also his official debut as a selector, chose a starting line-up: Nikola Velikov (captain), Evan Georgiev, Dimitar Dobrev, Alexander Dobrev, Nikolay Mihovski, Dimitar Peychinov and libero Georgi Boychev.

Alexander Dobrev was the top scorer for our team with 16 points, and Dimitar Peychinov scored 14. Similar to the controls before the World Cup, today’s strongest weapon was the blocking game, where our team scored 10 points. Both teams made 4 aces each, and our boys had 2 errors more than the opponent (29 vs. 27).

On Sunday, Bulgaria plays against Chinese Taipei. The meeting is again in the “Levski Sofia” hall from 5:00 p.m.
