Bulgaria’s national under-20 volleyball team won a convincing victory over Greece 3:0 (25:16, 25:13, 25:20) at the European Championship. Thus, ours have only one defeat in the tournament against Italy and are second in the standings.
In the first game, Bulgaria had a huge advantage over the hosts. Simeon Nikolov was the first to kick off and thanks to him we won four points, two of them were aces. The Bulgarians didn’t let Greece feel on “their own land” at any moment. Nikolov’s opening shots pierced the opponent’s defense, and the score only grew. At 17:9, it was already clear that there were no chances for Greece in this part. Methodically, the Bulgarian tim kept its lead and won the first part with 25:16.
The second game was an even bigger display of class than ours. Again we started 4-0 and denied the hosts any resistance early on. This happened especially decisively at 5:3 for ours. Then we scored nine points in a row, with which the score became a desperate 14:3. The opening blow of ours had no resistance from Greece. Until the end of the game, the home team tried timidly to get back into the game, but only managed to exchange points. The part finished 25:13.
The third game was the most contested. Unlike the previous ones, Bulgaria led “only” with 3:0 after Nikolov’s opening shots. The hosts tried to stay in the match, reducing our lead to 9:7. Four Bulgarian points followed, which effectively ended the match. Without another big our series kept their lead and thus won the match.
With the victory, Bulgaria remained in second place in the group with four wins. The leader is Israel, who are unbeaten in five matches so far. On Monday they face the Jews at 5.30pm and our last group game is the next day against Spain at the same time.
