The best Bulgarian athlete, Valentina Georgieva, won the gold medal in the vault final of the World Cup of Gymnastics in Baku (Azerbaijan), which is a qualification for the Olympics in Paris this summer.

She thus secured a quota for the Games, but official confirmation from the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) is still awaited.

The national team received a score of 13,799 points. She was followed by Chan Ok An (DPRK) with 13,783 points and Carla Navas (Panama) with 13,733 points.

For the graduate of Filip Yanev, this is the third competition after returning from injury. She suffered a knee injury on 14 August 2022 during the vaulting final of the European Championships in Munich.

On September 9, Georgieva underwent surgery due to damage to the cruciate ligaments and meniscus. At the World Cups in Cairo (Egypt) and Cottbus (Germany), she won silver medals.

Eddie Penev, who entered as first reserve in the floor final, placed fourth with a score of 14.166 points. Egor Sharamkov (Belarus) became the champion with 14,933 points.

Thus, Georgieva brought a second quota for Bulgaria after that of Kevin Penev. Eddie Penev is also very close to a place at the Paris Games. The next world cup is in Doha, where Georgieva and Edi Penev will participate.
