The face of Bulgarian volleyball, which is the national teams for women and men, is now completely in the hands of specialists from Italy.
Lorenzo Micelli leads our ladies from 2022. From Friday, his compatriot Gianlorenzo Blengini is our men’s coach.
The current mentor of one of the symbols of Botusha volleyball, “Lube”, signed a contract for 3+2 years with the federation. His engagement with the team, in which Alex Nikolov is performing very successfully, ends at the end of the season. After that, Blendjini will devote himself entirely to the national team of Bulgaria. His big goal will be qualifying for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.
The 52-year-old Blengini is a former coach of the Italian volleyball players. With them, he won a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
A year earlier in Sofia, Blendzini’s Azzurri reached the bronze medal at the European Championship after a victory over Bulgaria. At the club level, he is a three-time champion of Italy with “Lube”.
In addition to the qualities of Micheli and Blendgini, the mentor of the youth national team, Andrea Buratini, should be added to the Italian volleyball diaspora in our country.
