Bundestag debate: Merkel promotes Laschet as Federal Chancellor – “It doesn’t matter who rules this country”

by time news

BIn the last Bundestag debate of this legislative period, und-Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) emphasized the importance of the Bundestag election in just under three weeks. She campaigned for the Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet, because: “It does not matter who rules this country.” His government will stand for “reliability, moderation and middle”. And that is exactly what Germany needs now.

The alternative is a government led by the SPD, which does not rule out cooperation with the Left Party. Merkel commented on the obvious unrest and the interjections from the plenary in an unusually flippant manner: “My goodness, what an excitement!”

Previously, in her presumably last speech as Federal Chancellor, Merkel had taken stock of her term in office, which also included “decisive progress in digitization” and the fight against right-wing extremism.
