Burger beef in Cologne: McDonald’s wants to ban “Big Mac” tacos Regional

by time news

Köln – They wanted the better Big Mac – and now they have the salad…

At McDonald’s, the two-tier burger has been served over the counter for over 50 years. Cologne’s celebrity meeting place, Café Buur, where ex-bachelor Andrej Mangold (35) and singer Pietro Lombardi (30) like to come, wanted to benefit from this – and developed the classic further.

The restaurant sells three Big Mac-style tacos for €14.90 each. Title: No Big Mac Tacos.

The original has been popular for over 50 years

The fast-food giant didn’t like that at all: Lawyers insist on a cease-and-desist declaration! The law firm said the ads would disparage McDonald’s products.

The group itself made it clear: “Trademark law is pretty clear when it comes to protecting intellectual property.”

“We have created the better version of the Big Mac,” counters Café Buur boss Parham Pooramin (33). “Everyone eats the Big Mac for the sauce, but the bread and meat are of inferior quality. We do that better.”

In terms of taste, Pooramin’s staff tried to come as close as possible to the original and also offered the burger chain a cooperation for a good cause. Answer – none.

“Because of us, McDonald’s probably didn’t sell a burger less.” Managing Director Mazlum Akyol (28): “The rush is huge. The tacos were completely sold out on the first day of sale.”

So they should stay on the menu, but “from now on as ‘the forbidden tacos’…”
