Burgos hosts the congress of teachers of Spanish for foreigners with 350 specialists

The congress will be held under the motto “Interaction, discourse and technology of Spanish LE/L2/LH” and will address issues related to the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language (LE), a second language (L2) and as a heritage language (LH). .

The event, which takes the baton from the meeting held last year in Verona (Italy) and is organized in collaboration with the General Directorate of Spanish in the World (dependent on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), will have Japan as the guest country, which will offer an opportunity to strengthen ties between the teaching of Spanish and Japanese culture.

The event will begin with a day dedicated to Spanish in Asia, at the Palacio de los Constables de Castilla, with specialists from China, South Korea, the Philippines, India and Japan, and which will take place one month before the official opening of the Cervantes Institute of Seoul.

The congress will feature prestigious plenary speakers, such as Pablo Valdivia, Professor of European Culture and Literature at the University of Groningen and researcher at the Harvard Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS); Yuko Morimoto, Full Professor of Spanish Language at the Carlos III University of Madrid; and Sonia Bailini, Professor of Spanish Language and Translation at the Catholic University of Milan.

In addition, there will be institutional presentations and a round table on teaching Spanish and entrepreneurship, with the participation of Xosé Castro, head of language policy for the Netflix platform in Spain and Portugal; Elena Prieto, creator of the Tu Escuela de Español online academy and a YouTube channel for learning Spanish with more than 400,000 subscribers; and Francisco Herrera, director of the Clic International House center in Cádiz, teacher trainer and director of the “LdeLengua” podcast.

Finally, the University of Burgos will witness the signing of three collaboration agreements between the Association for the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language and the Japanese, Spanish and Latin American Academic Confederation (CANELA), the Association for the Teaching of Spanish in Higher Education in the United Kingdom (ELE UK) and the Instituto Cervantes.
