Burkina: Hygiene and sanitation, the first barrier measure against diseases (Hospital manager)

Ouagadougou, Oct. 15, 2023 (AIB) – The Director General (DG) of the Bogodogo University Hospital Center (CHU-B), Seydou Nombré indicated, Saturday, that “hygiene and sanitation constitute the first barrier measure for diseases”, in the context of the dengue disease epidemic which is causing numerous cases of death in the country.

“This activity takes place in a context marked by epidemics of dengue fever and malaria for which hygiene and sanitation constitute the first barrier measure against their spread, especially in healthcare settings,” declared the Director General (DG) of Bogodogo University Hospital Center (CHU-B), Seydou Nombré.

For Mr. Nombré, this activity is part of the overall framework of the response against vector-borne diseases such as malaria and especially the dengue epidemic which causes many cases of death in Burkina Faso.

The first head of CHU-B spoke on Saturday in Ouagadougou, during a sanitation day initiated by his health structure.

According to him, this action follows a circular from the governor of the Central region inviting public services, development projects and programs to clean up their environment, in order to fight back against the dengue disease which is hitting his region hard.

“Cleanliness is the cornerstone of measures to control not only infections, but also adverse effects such as allergies,” he maintained.

Seydou Nombré indicated that the day also aims to offer a better working environment to health professionals for the care of populations.

The CEO of CHU-B said he was satisfied with the mobilization of his staff, security guards and local residents, all armed with picks, shovels and rakes, to rid the health structure of waste and piles of rubbish.

“I hope that this great initiative will be perpetuated so that we instill in ourselves and future generations this civic and civic behavior which is to keep our environment healthy and liveable,” he continued.

As a reminder, this CHU-B cleanliness day is the third of its kind after those of 2022 and 2021.
