Burkina: “RTB a powerful weapon” against terrorism, Rimtalba Ouédraogo

Ouagadougou, November 2, 2023 (AIB) – Burkina Faso Radio Broadcasting (RTB) is a powerful weapon that spits fire on terrorists, like cannons, declared the Minister in charge of Communication, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, urging the national channel to take its full place in the liberation of the country.

“The Radio-Television of Burkina Faso (RTB), which is a powerful weapon like the cannons that spit fire on terrorist positions, must take its full place in this offensive to reconquer the integrity of our territory,” said declared the Minister in charge of Communication, government spokesperson, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.

For him, this RTB mission is carried out in the same way as the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP).

Because, according to the minister, in the war against terrorism, there is another war to be won, that of the communication war.

The government spokesperson spoke Thursday in Ouagadougou, during the launching ceremony of commemorative activities for 60 years of Burkina television under the theme: “Burkina Television 60 years later: challenges and perspectives in the face of the situation safe”.

“This anniversary is rather a moment of introspection and reflection on the new missions of RTB, in general and of television, in particular at this decisive turning point in the history of our dear nation,” he indicated. .

Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo specified that the action of national television must be in line with the objectives of the Transition, namely building a new and sovereign Burkina Faso within its territorial limits.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting RTB in the construction of its headquarters and the launch of a new channel essentially devoted to national languages.

“We are resolutely committed to ensuring that RTB in general and national television in particular are there to celebrate the victory of our people over terrorism,” maintained the Director General of RTB, Galip Atéridar Somé.

Mr. Somé thanked the RTB workers for the work done on a daily basis and their commitment day and night on all terrains, sometimes in very difficult areas, which makes them “real VDPs” alongside the combat units. .

“I can reassure that despite the various constraints, the RTB will not fail in its mission, it will fully play its role by producing programs focused on the reconquest of our territory, the strengthening of social cohesion, reconciliation between girls and son of this country,” he quoted.

This, through healthy information, devoid of any incitement to hatred, to division, marked with the seal of the general interest so that together we can fight the only worthwhile fight, the construction of a Burkina Faso of peace where it will be a good life for everyone.

The representative of the elders of national television, Souleymane Compaoré, on behalf of the alumni, congratulated the communications department for having involved them in the organization of the event.

“We feel this as a great mark of the contribution of previous generations to the construction and positive evolution of national television, it is also a sign of the desire to capitalize on experiences for the continued progress of national television” , added Mr. Compaoré.

According to him, national television has been built as a formidable tool for socio-economic development in the promotion of public policies, a formidable tool for integration and inclusion through the promotion of culture in all its forms and in all its diversities.

“It helped raise awareness through information and awareness. Over the years, she has captured through image and sound the great moments in the history of our country,” he said.

For 72 hours, several activities will mark this diamond jubilee, including the signing of an agreement with sister television stations in Mali and Niger, a public conference and the launch of new programs.

Created on August 5, 1963, under the name Volta Vision (named after Upper Volta, the former name of Burkina Faso), national television was the first television channel in the newly independent French-speaking African countries.

It was in 1979 that it broadcast in color and began to extend throughout the country from 1982.
