Burkina: The S0S Children of Orodara association strengthens the dialogue between the FDS of Mali and Burkina and the communities living on the border strip

Orodara, Jul 6, 2023 (AIB)-The SOS Children Association of Orodara organized on Friday June 23 and Monday June 26, 2023 respectively in Finkolo in Mali and Koloko in Burkina Faso, two workshops to strengthen dialogue between the FDS of the two countries and communities living on the border strip.

It was the commune of Finkolo, in the circle of Sikasso in Mali, which hosted the first workshop on Friday, June 23, 2023 and which brought together the Defense and Security Forces and the community leaders of the said commune and those of Danderesso.

At the opening of the work, in the presence of the chairman of the board of directors of SOS children, the mayor of Finkolo Drissa Ouattara was delighted with the choice of his commune to host this important meeting relating to the promotion of cohesion at the level of the border strip.

It is also the same feeling of joy that animated the Central Sub-Prefect of Sikasso Drissa Coulibaly. In view of the themes that will be addressed during this workshop, he thanked the Children of Orodara Association and its partners for this initiative.

During the exchanges, the participants reflected on the behaviors that undermine the dialogue between these two entities. These include non-compliance with the texts, fraud, road harassment and corruption. The next day, Saturday June 24, 2023, followed a conference on the management of natural resources in the border strip.

The Koloko workshop, which was held on Monday, June 26, 2023, took place in the prefecture meeting room and involved the FDS and community leaders of the said locality and those of the municipality of Sindo.

He looked at the same issue with the same target audience. In terms of resilience factors, the participants mentioned the distrust and fear of approaching the FDS, the ignorance of the texts by the majority of the populations, the practices of certain people and the excessive rigor of certain FDS.

From Finkolo to Koloko, the participants have almost formulated the same proposals, namely the creation of a framework for consultation and/or collaboration between the FDS and the communities in the resolution of community conflicts, the creation of a framework for sustainable dialogue between the FDS and the communities and finally the organization of socio-cultural activities involving the FDS.

These two workshops are part of the implementation of the brick-by-brick project: Support for the prevention/management of community and border conflicts carried out by the NGO Interpeace with financial assistance from the Patrip Foundation.
