Burma’s ruling military council announced on Saturday that the death toll from Cyclone Yagi and the floods it caused in Burma has risen to 390 people, with dozens missing.

The disaster has exacerbated the security, humanitarian and political crisis that Burma has been experiencing since the 2021 coup that overthrew the democratically elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi.
The United Nations announced that about one million people were affected in Burma in the wake of Cyclone Yagi.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that massive destruction had occurred in those areas, with roads, bridges, communications networks, schools, public service facilities, religious sites, crops and agricultural lands severely damaged or completely collapsed.
Yagi hit northern Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Burma more than a week ago, causing floods and landslides that killed hundreds.
