Unexpected, comforting… Around 2,000 book donations flocked to the Dammarie-les-Lys media library (Seine-et-Marne), whose 1,500 m² premises located in the heart of the popular Plaine-du-Lys district, were were set on fire during the urban riots which followed the death of young Nahel in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine), killed by the police, during the nights of June 29 to June 30 and from June 30 to July 1, 2023.

Of the 50,000 works, only 7,000 were saved – the 5,000 documents borrowed by the 4,000 members and the 2,500 present at the time in the annex library. But recreating a documentary collection of free culture is not easy. The buyout, which weighs very heavily financially, will be gradual. Hence the satisfaction of the six members of the team after their call for donations.
