The Danish parliament has passed a bill banning the burning of copies of the Koran in public places.

Day.Az reports with reference to foreign media that the bill was adopted because the protests in Muslim countries after the burning of the Koran caused security concerns in Denmark.

According to information, the Danish government has declared that the new rules will not restrict freedom of speech in the country.

It should be recalled that on June 28, a person named Salvan Momika burned the Holy Quran with the permission of the police in Stockholm, Sweden. Later, in front of the Iraqi embassy in Stockholm, he trampled on the Holy Quran and the Iraqi flag, insulting Islam.

Some time after this incident, a group called Danske Patrioter (Danish Patriots) shared a video on social media showing the burning of the Holy Quran and the trampling of the Iraqi flag in front of the Iraqi embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark.

These events have been condemned by many Muslim countries, including the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council and the European Union (EU). The Organization of Islamic Cooperation held an emergency meeting regarding the insulting of the Koran.

In a statement issued after the OIC meeting, actions that insult the Holy Quran in Sweden and Denmark were strongly condemned.

The decision of OIC to send a delegation to the European Union (EU) Commission has been announced in order to prevent the repetition of such actions carried out under the name of freedom of expression. In addition, OIC member countries were called upon to re-examine their relations with the countries where the Koran was burned and take the appropriate position.
