Thiruvananthapuram: The new fare hike for buses, autos and taxis will not come into effect from tomorrow. It will take a week for the government to issue an order in this regard. Should be determined including the fair stage. The transport department said it would issue an order after this. Fire stages of ordinary fast super fast buses should be specified. According to the Left Front, it will take a week for the department to decide on the fair stage.

The minimum bus fare has been increased from the current Rs 8 to Rs 10. After the distance of the minimum charge, an increase of one rupee per kilometer will be made. The transport minister had yesterday said that the demand of bus owners to increase student fares was strong and unfair. But the decision taken at the LDF meeting was to set up a commission to look into the matter. In this case the fare of the students will be decided on the basis of the commission report.

Auto charge up to Rs 30 per 2 km. The fare will be increased from Rs 12 to Rs 15 per km. Taxi fares for cars below 1500cc will be Rs 200 and above 1500 cc Rs 225. The Transport Minister had said that the order based on the revised fares would be issued soon and with this the revised fares would come into effect.

He said there would be no change in the auto taxi fare structure for waiting charges and night travel. Auto has increased the minimum charge distance from 1.5 km to 2 km. “If the government takes a decision, it will apply to everyone,” he said. The minister had said that the increase was not commensurate with the increase in fuel prices.
