Epic Games has launched its new game engine Unreal 5. It already makes it possible to download the official version that offers new technologies to create more impressive games, worlds and experiences, at least according to it.

The official launch comes a little less than two years after Afiq announced Unreal 5, the game engine that will drive the next generation of games, and its highlight are two new technologies: Lumen which the company says will offer developers a “dynamic global lighting solution” to create scenes with faithful lighting, shadow and reflections More to reality, and the Naniet “allows developers to create games and experiences with objects full of geometric details” so that developers do not have to create a large number of more abstract models.

Of course the game engine offers additional tools and solutions to developers and so for example the ability to divide open world games into partitions. In the development studio CD Projekt Red we noted that they chose to work with Afik’s engine in the next title in The Witcher series of games to streamline the work and divide it among other teams because it simplifies large projects when each team can work on a different area independently.

The engine is actually already in use. So at the opening of Fortnite’s new episode, Afik’s Battle Royale game, the company switched to using the new engine. In addition, a few months ago the company released The Matrix Experience, a kind of experience that accompanied the launch of the fourth film in the Matrix film series.

The new Tomb Raider game will also use Unreal 5

With the launch of the new engine it was also announced that Crystal Dynamic the development studio behind the Tomb Raider games is working on a new game in the series. The new game starring Lara Croft will use Unreal 5. Dallas DickensonThe brand manager at the studio, described the new title as “an action-adventure game with high-quality cinematic production that will push the series forward.”

Beyond that Dickenson did not provide further details about the game nor is it known what the launch window is. No images from the development process were shown either.
