A 28-year-old female bus driver and four passengers, ranging in age from 45 to 82, were transported to Raffles Hospital while conscious, according to a joint statement from the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force. A 31-year-old male van driver is assisting police with their investigation.

Details of the Victoria Street Accident

The incident took place on Victoria Street, heading towards Kallang Road, at approximately 3:30 p.m. local time. Initial reports from Shin Min Daily News indicate significant damage to the bus, including a damaged right headlight and a shattered windshield, with debris scattered across the roadway.

According to a spokesperson for SBS Transit, the service 197 bus was proceeding straight in the extreme left lane when a van unexpectedly veered into its path. Despite the bus driver’s immediate application of emergency brakes, a collision proved unavoidable.

“The bus was travelling straight when the van cut into its path,” a company representative stated.

Recent Incidents Raise Safety Concerns

This incident marks the second involving an SBS Transit bus in less than a week. On January 28, another SBS Transit bus was involved in a collision with a car in Mountbatten. While details of that earlier incident remain limited, the frequency of these events is prompting increased scrutiny of road safety protocols.

SBS Transit has confirmed it is in contact with all those affected by the January 31 accident, offering support and wishing them a swift recovery. All five individuals received outpatient treatment.

The police investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as they become available.
