Nagercoil,

Despite the unions’ second day of strike, 100 percent of buses were operating as usual in Kumari. The day before yesterday, only 35 per cent of the buses were running, causing a loss of revenue of Rs 25 lakh, officials said.

2nd day strike

For the past 2 days, INDUCT, CITU, AITUC, Vol. BC, H.M.S. Ten unions, including one, went on a nationwide general strike.

Thus the banking services were paralyzed. Buses across Tamil Nadu were running at a low rate. The public suffered greatly as a result.

Rs 25 lakh revenue loss

Similarly, in Kumari district, only 35 per cent buses were running the day before yesterday. That means there are a total of 818 buses including spare buses in the Nagercoil zone of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation. Of these, 444 Town buses and 316 buses (outstation and out-of-state buses) have a total of 760 regular buses. But only 270 buses were operated due to the general strike that took place the day before yesterday.

If 760 buses are operated, the average daily revenue to the Nagercoil region will be Rs. 70 lakhs. But only 35 per cent of the buses operated the day before yesterday, earning only Rs 45 lakh. This resulted in a loss of revenue of Rs 25 lakh in a single day.

100 percent bus operation

However, 100 per cent of the buses, i.e. 760 buses, were operated in Kumari district and outlying districts yesterday and only buses going to areas including Thiruvananthapuram and Nedumangad in Kerala were operated up to Kaliyakkavilai. State Transport Authority officials said that it was operating as usual for the outer districts.

Officials also said that all but one of the workers’ union executives who were on strike had returned to work yesterday.
