Butembo: second phase of vaccination against poliomyelitis, more than 900,000 children expected (CongoForum)

BUTEMBO – Here we go for the second phase of the polio vaccination campaign of the provincial health division, Butembo branch. The ‘go’ was given this Wednesday, October 11 by the urban authority. It concerns children whose age varies between 0 and 59 months.

At least 924,000 children will benefit from the immunization campaign against this disease. The head doctor of the Expanded Vaccination Program, PEV/Butembo revealed this figure during the official launch of the campaign by the city mayor.

Doctor Bernardin Siviholya also suggested that this vaccination is a response against poliomyelitis. He notes that a positive case of this disease was reported in the DPS Butembo branch, in the Kamango health zone (Beni territory).

Regarding details on the target statistics, estimated at 924,824 children, 151,796 are expected in the city of Butembo.

Present at this activity, the Butembo-Lubero Children’s Parliament reminded participants that children must fully enjoy their right to health. Reagan Malikidogo is a member of this structure, he urges parents to take ownership of this campaign.

Giving the ‘g’o to this campaign, the Mayor of Butembo, Principal Superior Commissioner Roger MowaBaeki-Telly, encouraged parents to vaccinate their children in order to eradicate the virus.

Note that this second phase of the polio vaccination campaign officially begins this Thursday, October 12, 2023 and will end on Saturday, October 14, barring unforeseen circumstances.
