As you know, the central government has reduced the custom duty on mobile phones to 15 percent, which was 20 percent earlier. Which smartphones have reduced prices
The smartphones whose prices have been reduced in India include the iPhone Pro and Pro Max models. The prices of these two smartphones have been reduced the most. As you will know, the iPhone Pro model is not made in India. It is imported directly from abroad. Along with this, the prices of Made in India iPhones like the iPhone 13, 14 and 15 series smartphones have been reduced, but it is less than the Pro model. Apart from this, the price of iPhone SE has been reduced by Rs 2,300.
How much tax will be levied now
Before the government reduced the import duty, a total tax of 22 percent was levied on the import of smartphones. This included 20 percent basic custom duty and 2 percent surcharge. Let us tell you that the government charges 10 percent of the basic custom duty, which will continue to be levied as before. In such a situation, now instead of the earlier 22 percent, a total tax of 16.5 percent will have to be paid. 18 percent GST is levied on Made in India devices.
Assembly of Pro model will start in India
Currently, 99 percent of the smartphones sold in India are made locally, while some premium smartphones are imported in bulk. Apple may start assembling the Pro and Pro Max iPhone models in India in collaboration with Foxconn by the end of this year. Let us tell you that the share of the Pro model in the total iPhone sales is 10-12 percent, but it has the most impact on the revenue.
